Holy Circle Dance
“Our Father sees our work. He is joyfully smiling and clapping for us as we work to do his will. He is our cheerleader, our encourager, and the wind beneath our wings (Thanks Bette Midler). He is the one saying, “keep on dancing in your holy circle, this is what I made you for.”
- Kara Palmer
Do you ever wonder if others see your value? Do you ever feel like you are constantly trying to prove yourself but the audience and applause is low to zero?
At the start of quarantine, I decided to be intentional in this season, trusting and believing God was going to do a new thing in me. I spontaneously invited my friends into a group called 100 Days of Intention. If I am honest, this 100 Days of Intention Group was completely spirit-led as I worked to exercise my leadership arm. I didn’t know what I was doing, where we were going, but I acted in obedience and watched the Holy Spirit work.
In the first week, we worked to develop the habit of the 5 Minute Journal. If you aren’t familiar, I highly encourage you to dive into this practice. At the start of each day, you write down 3 types of things:
What are you grateful for?
What would make today great?
A strong “I AM” statement.
These exercises proved to be incredibly powerful for the intentionality of actions and becoming. I and many group members wrote incredibly powerful “I AM” statements that solidified who we are today and who we want to be tomorrow. Examples like, “I AM WORTHY, I AM ACHIEVING MY DREAMS, I AM STRONG” .... you get the idea. This morning while scrolling Facebook, I read an “I AM statement” that brought me to my knees.
“I am no longer waiting to be recognized; I know that I dance in a holy circle.”
WOW Just WOW!
When I was called into ministry, God blessed me with two awesome supporters, but beyond these close-knit confidants, I really did not have anyone else. I have spent the last six years refining, growing and learning. However, deep down, I have always yearned for a specific kind of validation. Validation that never seems to come.
Sometimes we just need to hear a simple, “you are a great mom,” or “you are doing amazing things with your life,” or “I know it is hard, I am here.”
But, today.
Instead of looking for that outside validation, let’s search internally. Let’s just go ahead and speak this to ourselves and say,
“I am no longer waiting to be recognized.”
Our Father sees our work. He is joyfully smiling and clapping for us as we work to do his will. He is our cheerleader, our encourager, and the wind beneath our wings (Thanks Bette Midler). He is the one saying, “keep on dancing in your holy circle, this is what I made you for.”
Proverbs 20:24 says, “A person’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand their own way?”
So today and the days to come, let’s just stop waiting on the validation from others to complete us . I hear David Bowie’s voice right now from the movie The Labryrinth, “Dance, magic dance, dance, magic dance!”
Let’s stop doubting.
Let’s continue dancing in our holy circle.
And when we are tempted to look left or right for the attaboys, gaze up instead.
Gaze up girlfriends, gaze up.
