Every Knee will Bow
“When our spirit comes in contact with the Almighty Glory of God, instantaneously we WILL drop to our knees. There is no forethought, no “God, is that you question?” Your spirit and my spirit will bow in the presence of our Creator. We couldn’t stop the bow if we tried.”
- Kara Palmer
As Christians, common scripture can pass over us without much contemplation of what the verses really mean. A perfect example of this is Romans 14:11, “As I live, says the LORD, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.” Have you REALLY thought about what “Every Knee Will Bow” means? I certainly never thought of it until I had an amazing experience with God.
As a Christian yoga teacher, my mind often is meditating on God and his word as I pray over my students and worship him. 5 years ago, a popular song by Meredith Andrews called “Open Up The Heavens,” would play in rotation on my yoga playlist. It always spoke to me but this day was different. When I was not in a class, I found my spirit singing the lyrics. When I woke up, my spirit was singing. When I closed my eyes for sleep, my spirit would sing the song on repeat like a record player. The song’s lyrics say words like, “Open up the heavens, we want to see you” and “Show us, show us your glory.”
One night, when I was sleeping, I had an incredible experience through a dream. I dreamed I was walking in a field alone. In this dream, the sky began to open and the brightest light ever penetrated down on me. As soon as my spirit encountered the light, I instantly dropped to my knees, prostrated, bowing! The light embraced my bowing with immense peace, joy, and love. I saw no person, I just felt the glory of God shining down on me.
This is a moment that I will always cherish. This dream is so sacred to me but it also taught me something very special. When our spirit comes in contact with the Almighty Glory of God, instantaneously we WILL drop to our knees. There is no forethought, no “God, is that you question?” Your spirit and my spirit will bow in the presence of our Creator. We couldn’t stop the bow if we tried. I have never experienced power like this in my life. It is the power that raised Jesus from the dead, that spoke light into existence, that heals the sick, casts out demons, and restores the broken. It is a power greater than we can wrap our minds around.
Bowing to Jesus every time I come to my yoga mat is a practice that humbles me but is also necessary. It is an honor to come into a posture where I physically surrender everything I have to him and I can daily bow to his Divinity. As a Christian, if you haven’t come to your knees and bowed before his feet, I encourage you to do so. His presence will intersect that space with love, joy, and peace.
Today, as you prepare for the Sabbath that is to come, I encourage you to bow and let his goodness and mercy flood your mind, body, and spirit.
“When our spirit comes in contact with the Almighty Glory of God, instantaneously we WILL drop to our knees. There is no forethought, no “God, is that you question?” Your spirit and my spirit will bow in the presence of our Creator. We couldn’t stop the bow if we tried.”
