Every Knee will Bow

“When our spirit comes in contact with the Almighty Glory of God, instantaneously we WILL drop to our knees. There is no forethought, no “God, is that you question?” Your spirit and my spirit will bow in the presence of our Creator. We couldn’t stop the bow if we tried.”

- Kara Palmer

As Christians, common scripture can pass over us without much contemplation of what the verses really mean. A perfect example of this is Romans 14:11, “As I live, says the LORD, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.” Have you REALLY thought about what “Every Knee Will Bow” means? I certainly never thought of it until I had an amazing experience with God.

As a Christian yoga teacher, my mind often is meditating on God and his word as I pray over my students and worship him. 5 years ago, a popular song by Meredith Andrews called “Open Up The Heavens,” would play in rotation on my yoga playlist. It always spoke to me but this day was different. When I was not in a class, I found my spirit singing the lyrics. When I woke up, my spirit was singing. When I closed my eyes for sleep, my spirit would sing the song on repeat like a record player. The song’s lyrics say words like, “Open up the heavens, we want to see you” and “Show us, show us your glory.”

One night, when I was sleeping, I had an incredible experience through a dream. I dreamed I was walking in a field alone. In this dream, the sky began to open and the brightest light ever penetrated down on me. As soon as my spirit encountered the light, I instantly dropped to my knees, prostrated, bowing! The light embraced my bowing with immense peace, joy, and love. I saw no person, I just felt the glory of God shining down on me.

This is a moment that I will always cherish. This dream is so sacred to me but it also taught me something very special. When our spirit comes in contact with the Almighty Glory of God, instantaneously we WILL drop to our knees. There is no forethought, no “God, is that you question?” Your spirit and my spirit will bow in the presence of our Creator. We couldn’t stop the bow if we tried. I have never experienced power like this in my life. It is the power that raised Jesus from the dead, that spoke light into existence, that heals the sick, casts out demons, and restores the broken. It is a power greater than we can wrap our minds around.

Bowing to Jesus every time I come to my yoga mat is a practice that humbles me but is also necessary. It is an honor to come into a posture where I physically surrender everything I have to him and I can daily bow to his Divinity. As a Christian, if you haven’t come to your knees and bowed before his feet, I encourage you to do so. His presence will intersect that space with love, joy, and peace.

Today, as you prepare for the Sabbath that is to come, I encourage you to bow and let his goodness and mercy flood your mind, body, and spirit.

Kara Palmer

Kara Palmer is a founding writer for Walking Gospel Inspiration. After sharing her testimonies at a yoga retreat, one of the group leaders spoke the name “Walking Gospel” over her. This happened repeatedly as she shared stories of God’s redemptive work in her life though significant trauma and hardship. Kara loved the nickname she had been given, returned home and created an instagram account which she called “walkinggospelyoga” to document her love of yoga and Jesus.

Over the years, God revealed a movement centered around the Walking Gospel concept which Kara eventually turned into her corporation. “The path of creating Walking Gospel has been one of greatest joys and significant hardships,” she shares. “Some of the people closest to me have been tools of the enemy as they claimed I was no Walking Gospel and would not accomplish the vision I had been given. But when you have been given something to birth into the world, it must be born, regardless of the skeptics or those trying to hold you back.”

Kara is eager to inspire people in their journey of finding Jesus, deepening their relationship with Christ, enduring seasons of great trial, celebrating the goodness of God and encouraging others in their obedience and faith walk. She says, “Your relationship with God is personal. It is intimate. It is the greatest comfort and hope we have in the world. I cannot imagine going through this last decade of my life without Jesus. I look forward to sharing testimonies of desperation, redemption and revelation as I strive to walk this gospel into the world.”

Kara will begin Fuller Theological Seminary in 2021 where she will obtain her Master’s in Divinity. She is on the coaching team with Coach Micheal Burt, owns the Yoga Hive Studio, and resides in Daphne, Alabama with her children, Shiloh Rose (3) and Noah (8).
